Projects

• Leprosy Elimination Project: Innovative approach with community participation brought leprosy prevalence below 0.5 per 1000 in 250 villages of Mysore District. The project has been working successfully since 1989.
• Mass Measles Immunization: Complete design, implementation and evaluation of Mass Measles Immunization, for the first time in the country, as a pilot project at Mysore. Nearly 60,000 inoculations were given to children at a given point of time.
• WHO Consultant: Evaluated the Guinea Worm Eradication Programme in Gujarat State through a three-tier assessment of policymakers, implementers and beneficiaries, with recommendations for improvement.
• UNICEF Survey: Multi-indicator evaluation survey in Mysore slums and Coorg district regarding health and sanitation, a UNICEF-sponsored project.
• University Talk AIDS: Together with the NSS coordinator, conducted AIDS awareness sessions for various University faculties.
• AIDS Counseling Cell: Established an AIDS Counseling Cell at JSS Hospital, Mysore, to create awareness and provide counseling for Mysore district.
• Shakti Dham: In coordination with social scientists, philanthropic societies and individuals, an organization was established to rehabilitate and educate professional sex workers.
• AIDS / HIV Workshops: Conducting regular workshops on AIDS / HIV for general practitioners and paramedical workers.
• AIDS Awareness Workshop, Bhubaneswar: Participated in the workshop organized by the British Council Division of the British High Commission, New Delhi, and Govt. of Orissa; conducted a session on HIV Surveillance with Dr. Kodakevich of WHO.
